Sarah Harvey

News Editor

Sarah is a journalism major who gathers facts through interviews, observations and research in order to provide The Cuestonianwith breaking news stories. She is fascinated by how ethical journalists play an important role in society by providing accurate information to the public. Sarah lives in Big Sur with her three children, her partner, their two hamsters named Hammy and Almond and their dog, Chili Dog.

Colby Love

Sports Editor

Colby is a journalism major at Cuesta College and the sports editor for The Cuestonian. Colby plans to cover various sports at Cuesta, along with clubs and other communities within SLO County. As a former athlete and major sports fan, he is always interested in finding new sports to follow or to participate in, ranging from football and basketball to spearfishing, spikeball, and esports.

Lindsay McKee

Multimedia Editor

Lindsay is a journalism major at Cuesta College. She loves taking photos and finding new stories around school. She is also a film major and loves working with cameras/video equipment.

Abigail Olson

Arts + Entertainment Editor

Abigail is studying journalism while working for The Cuestonian newspaper as the arts and entertainment editor. Journalism caught her attention through the growing popularity of podcasts when she was in high school and she hopes to use broadcast journalism to share the arts at Cuesta. If she’s not in class, you can find her practicing her ballet technique.

Lia Pagel

Social Media Editor

Lia is currently taking courses for the multimedia journalism AAT degree at Cuesta. She is the social media editor for The Cuestonian. Through her love of motorsport, she became interested in journalism and social media. She went to two Indycar races this year, met some amazing people and plans to go to more Indycar races next year with her friends.

Dr. Jeremy Shermak

Faculty Adviser

Dr. Shermak earned his Ph.D. in journalism from The University of Texas at Austin and previously studied journalism at the University of Missouri and Indiana University. He earned an M.A. in writing pedagogy from DePaul University in Chicago. He practiced journalism at the Harbor Country (Mich.) News and the South Bend (Ind.) Tribune, working as a local government/sports reporter as well as a photographer. He most recently worked as a freelance sports reporter for the Malibu (Calif.) Surfside News. Outside of the newsroom, Dr. Shermak was a managing editor at market research firm Mintel International and a media analyst at internet analytics firm comScore Networks. When he is not in the newsroom, Dr. Shermak is either reading, watching or researching the news. He is a huge sports fan, especially baseball and his beloved Chicago Cubs.
