Joining The Cuestonian

The Cuestonian staff consists of students enrolled in JOUR 202A, 202B, 202C and 202D Cuestonian Student Media: News Production as well as JOUR 203A Cuestonian Student Media: Multimedia News Production: Photo Video, JOUR 203B Cuestonian Student Media: Multimedia News Production: Graphic and Design; JOUR 203C Cuestonian Student Media: Intermediate Multimedia News Production, and JOUR 203D Cuestonian Student Media: Advanced Multimedia News Production.

With each course at four credit hours, JOUR 202A-D and JOUR 203A-D meet at the same time and work collaboratively. JOUR 202 students focus more on the written portions of The Cuestonian while JOUR 203 students focus on visuals and multimedia, though students in both sections can create both written and multimedia work as desired and needed.

Students may enroll in each of these sections throughout their time at Cuesta over four semesters. Students will receive a grade for the class just as they would with any other class.

If you have any questions about how to join The Cuestonian or progress through the system, please do not hesitate to contact the faculty adviser or email [email protected]

The Cuestonian Contributors Network (CCN)

The Cuestonian Contributors Network (CCN) is a network of Cuesta College students who can contribute and publish to The Cuestonian. CCN allows The Cuestonian to publish more content from students who may not be officially part of the The Cuestonian staff. Inversely, students can have the opportunity to publish in The Cuestonian if they cannot formally join the class due to other obligations.

That said, not just any student can be part of the CCN. To be eligible for CCN, a student must:

  • Be a currently enrolled Cuesta College student
  • Be currently enrolled or have completed at least one Cuesta journalism class in good standing

Furthermore, CCN students cannot publish more than three stories per semester, with the exception of summer sessions. Official Cuestonian staff – that is, students enrolled in JOUR 202A-D and JOUR 203A-D – will be given priority for story pitches over CCN students.

Any work submitted by a CCN student will processed through the same editing process as all Cuestonian stories and held to our high standards. CCN was created for journalistic work with thorough reporting to high standards. While Opinion pieces are welcome, they must be written with integrity, evidence and relevant news angle. Letters to the Editor may be submitted at any time by members of the greater Cuesta community and are not part of CCN. The editor in chief and/or faculty adviser reserve the right to reject submissions and deny any student further participation in CCN if particular situations arise.
