On November 8, New Times held their 11th annual music award show.
The live event was held at The Rock, which is SLO Brew’s event center. Dante Marsh, Kody Balboa, The Bogeys, Ynana Rose, Domestic Tiger and Harmony Chabot performed. The award categories consisted of the Youth Award, Open Category Award, Country/Folk/Americana Award, Hip-Hop/Rap Award, R&B/Blues Award and the Rock/Alternative Award.Â
The winners of each category competed for the final award, which was best Live Performance. The first performance was by Harmony Chabot, who was the winner of the Youth Award. Her performance provided sweet and beautiful vocals.
Next was The Bogeys, winners of The Open category. They are an alternative pop band; when Cal Poly students and workers of Whole Foods meet, the result is The Bogeys. They have an electrifying stage presence that engages with each other and the crowd. Their performance makes one understand why they won the award.
Following The Bogeys’ performance was Ynana Rose, who won best Country/Folk/Americana performance. Her performance was very dreamy, reminiscent of of Joni Mitchell with her singer-songwriter type vibe. Rose had a very soft and sweet voice.Â
After Ynana Rose was Kody Balboa, who was the winner of the Hip-Hop/Rap category. Kody’s performance started off a little slow but picked up. He definitely hyped up the crowd by bringing on some guest performers such as James Kaye, and Wynn who made his performance so much better! Â
Next up was Dante Marsh, winner in the R&B/Blues category. Marsh put on a very spiritual show that connected with the crowd. Dante Marsh and his band won the Best Live Performance Award.Â
The final performer was Domestic Tiger, a five piece rock band who won in the Rock/Alternative category.
