Election season at Cuesta College is winding down for the Associated Students of Cuesta College 2026-27 term. Voting opened on April 20, with a link to the ballot being sent to all students via their Cuesta email, and ends on May 5 at 8 a.m. The ballot offers background and photos of the 15 candidates running for different positions for the 2026-27 term.
ASCC is Cuesta’s student government and works to promote the general welfare of Cuesta students through advocacy and change on campus.
This year’s candidates are running for a variety of positions, including ASCC president, vice president, activities director, clubs director, publicity director, finance director, chief justice, secretary, north county director, and senators. Those elected serve a term of one academic year, June through May. The president/student trustee, and vice president can each serve a maximum of four concurrent semesters.
ASCC Advisor and Student Engagement Coordinator Gabby Flores has been impressed by this year’s candidates. “This group seems especially motivated, and that’s super exciting not only as an advisor, but for the Cuesta community also,” Flores said.
Some of the positions for the 2026-2027 term are uncontested, including the ASCC president/student trustee position, which will be going to Shaun Chilton, who ran his campaign on the foundation of student advocacy and fighting to have his voice be a representative in rooms that other students may not get access to. “Students deserve a strong advocate who isn’t afraid to ask the questions adults would rather avoid,” Chilton said via his ballot biography.
Chilton will be sworn in at the June 3 Board of Trustees meeting, which will also feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, celebrating the first board meeting happening in the newly completed Campus Center on Cuesta’s SLO campus. The June 3 meeting is open to the public and begins at 4 p.m.
Flores spoke of the importance of students voting. “These students are your advocates on campus. Knowing who they are and choosing them yourself allows you to know that your concerns will be heard and that you have a voice in shaping Cuesta, too,” Flores said.
