Cuesta College Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor Society members Sean Maneely and Kathryn Wiest were honored with awards for their contributions. These two students won scholarships at the centennial AGS State Convention. Maneely was given the Ed Walsh Award for his outstanding community service. Wiest was recognized for academic excellence, winning the Kathleen D. Loly Award.
The AGS’s purpose is to “foster, promote, maintain, and recognize scholarship.” The state organization supports local chapters in creating cultural, social, and enrichment programs that enhance the overall experience for community college students. To be a member of AGS, a 3.0 grade point average or higher is required. Students at California Community Colleges form individual chapters governed by elected officers and advised by members of the college faculty and staff. These chapters may also require members to complete a number of hours of community service.
Editor’s Note: In a previous edition of this story, Kathryn Wiest’s name was misspelled. The name has been corrected. The Cuestonian regrets the error.
