Cuesta College’s Harold J Miossi Gallery is now accepting submissions for the Spring 2026 Student Annual Art Exhibition, which opens on April 16.
Cuesta students can submit up to three pieces of work created while enrolled during the 2025-2026 school year for anonymous consideration by a panel of judges, who will decide which work will be shown in the exhibition. There are seven categories students may submit work under: drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, ceramics, sculpture and graphic design/digital art.
“In their classes, they’ve been focusing on building skills and making art. The next step in that process is to display and show your work,” Miossi Gallery curator and Cuesta College faculty member Timothy Stark said. “Getting used to submitting your work to shows, building those skills, putting together all the information that’s necessary, and getting used to the submission process is important real-world experience.”
After submitting their work through the online portal, students will bring their physical work into the Miossi Gallery between April 1 and 3, to be judged in person by a jury of professional artists. This year’s judges include Christina McPhee and Katie Herzog, Californian artists whose work spans many disciplines, including painting, video, animation, sculpture, drawing and more. Student details are anonymized before the jurors view and judge the submitted works based on creativity, originality, technical skills and artistic expression. “They don’t know anything about the students or the classes,” Stark said of the judges. “They come in as a blank slate and they select the work that they want in the show.”
Selected artists will not only have their work displayed for the entirety of the Student Annual Art Exhibition, but there will also be gift cards and awards presented to artists who excel in various categories, including an award and prize for ‘Best in Show’. Students can also sell their work via the gallery during the exhibition.
“Whether you win or not, it doesn’t matter. You share what you learn,” Dean of Instruction for Creative Arts, Humanities, and Communication, Aubrey Kuan-Roderick said. “So I would love to encourage students who want to share their journey to enter.”
There is no registration fee for students to submit their work for consideration now and through April 3 via artcall.com.
