The Cuesta College women’s basketball team lost to the Ventura College Pirates on Saturday, 58-48.
The Cougars and Pirates both had disadvantages in playing the game with only seven players on each team.
The Cougars started the game off strong and held a lead through the first quarter by a 14-12 advantage, with Ventura closely trailing behind.
In the second quarter, the Pirates showed their ability to score three’s with multiple goals making the score 27- 25 as they went to halftime. For the game, the Pirates shot 36.7% from three-point land compared to the Cougars 14.3%.
In the third quarter, Ventura started off scoring, keeping their lead, but Kinzie Amer began her own scoring streak for the Cougars. She helped the Cougars end the third quarter just short of the Pirates at 41-38.
Amer’s field goal consistency continued by scoring three in a row, tying the score 46-46 halfway through the last quarter. In total, she scored 20 points for her team, making her the highest scorer for the Cougars. The Pirates Riannah Lopez led all players with 27 points.
Ultimately, the Cougars fell short with a final score of 58-48 to the Pirates.
The Cougars play their next game Tuesday at home at 5 p.m against LA Mission.
