The San Luis Obispo Police Department will be cracking down this Halloween, according to department officials.
Beginning one minute after midnight on Oct. 31, SLOPD and the Cal Poly Police Department will be enforcing a low-tolerance policy to combat the historically high number of crime and complaints received during Halloween.
Fines for municipal code violations will be doubled during this period, according to a press release. Those violations include behavior such as noise disturbances, unruly gatherings, and possessing open containers.
The low-tolerance policy, which began in 2002, has been successful in decreasing the behaviors that negatively impact the quality of life in local neighborhoods, according to Keith Storton, SLOPD’s Administrative Captain.Â
“Residents, permanent or not, need to be respectful of one another,†said Storton. “We are part of a shared community and involving oneself in adverse or destructive behaviors will not be tolerated.â€
Additional officers will be on duty for Halloween weekend and Halloween day, according to Storton.
The low-tolerance policy will end on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7 a.m.
