The Annual Cuesta College Music Faculty Concert will be held on the mainstage of the Harold J. Miossi Creative and Performing Arts Center on March 8. Faculty members will perform in small groups a variety of music, including classical, jazz, folk, blues and more.
“There’s such a wide diversity of what we’re doing,” Cuesta Performing Arts Division Chair Ron McCarley said.
The annual spring show features every member of the music faculty, including, for the first time, the division assistant, David Zedaker. This show has a long-running history at the school. McCarley said he has performed in it every year for the last 20 years of working and teaching at Cuesta.
“I love the fact that I see all faculty on stage together, not only sharing their love for music, but sharing the love for each other,” Cuesta Dean of Instruction for Creative Arts, Humanities, & Communication Aubrey Kuan Roderick said. “That love is so evident when I see them having a great time performing together.”
The show is funded by a private donor, meaning that 100% of funds raised from this show and a similar Annual Jazz Faculty Concert in the fall will go to the Cuesta Music Department’s own scholarship fund, and can be awarded to students by faculty. “Twice a year, all this money comes in, then I tell the [ensemble] directors, ‘here’s how much money you have to give,’ and they choose how they do it,” McCarley said. “Some do it for recruiting, some do it for keeping a student in the ensemble, some just happen to know a student that’s in great need.”
“They are just such an amazing group of faculty. They all come in with different personalities and do things a little bit differently, but they all are amazing musicians.” Kuan Roderick said. “That passion they have for their discipline, for their profession, is really a critical ingredient for them to be great teachers.”
The annual concert is happening at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 8. Tickets can be purchased through the CPAC’s webpage.
