Cuesta College’s literary and fine arts journal, Tellus, is accepting submissions until March 1 for this year’s publication.
The magazine features four categories of work: poetry, short story, creative nonfiction and visual arts. Any currently enrolled Cuesta student may submit up to two works for each category.
“We are looking for creative work,” one of the faculty editors of Tellus, Wes Sims, said. “I just encourage people that have some creative work that’s laying around, to turn it in, because this is a great opportunity for students to have work in a publication. Which goes a long way on your resume.”
The submitted works are blindly judged by a panel of at least two faculty judges per genre and the pieces are ranked before the winners are revealed. Winners will then be contacted and asked to provide a biography to accompany their work. The winners will win a cash gift card, be featured in the printed journal and given the opportunity to read their work at a celebration event on May 14 in the courtyard of the Harold J. Miossi Gallery on Cuesta’s SLO campus.
“I think everyone who is thinking about submitting should know that it is often really random what wins and what doesn’t,” faculty editor of Tellus and Cuesta English professor Sarah Miller said. “So what I would do is pick the thing that you are happiest with and send it out into the world.”
Tellus is accepting submissions until Sunday, March 1.
