The students and staff of Cuesta College now have a more powerful tool for safety on campus. Cuesta launched a new safety and crisis communication app in early November.

“The previous alert app depended more on email and was a slower method of reaching the staff and students,” Cuesta Chief of Police Jesse Herring said. 

The new app will utilize push notification technology, providing instantaneous alerts instead of the seven-minute-or-more delay in the old app. The new app will also offer a channel for direct communication with Cuesta Police.

The app will also provide users with the ability to request officer escorts to their cars when needed. Now that it’s getting darker sooner, Herring said this could benefit those feeling nervous traveling on campus in the evenings. 

The app also offers emergency weather alerts, updates on power outages and more.

Based on the results of the most recent Clery Report, Herring said Cuesta College is one of the safest college campuses in California, with only one crime reported at the Paso Robles campus and none at all reported on the San Luis Obispo campus.
