Welcome to a not-so-average art gallery.
On Cuesta College’s main campus, students are coming to see the environment portrayed in Julie Heffernan’s paintings. Her collection is called, “As the Waters Rise.â€Â
Heffernan is a New York artist with a taste for surrealism. Her paintings are a reflection of catastrophes filling the environment. She creates art showing the impact of human life on the planet in a futuristic landscape filled with disaster and nature.Â
The final night of the gallery, Oct. 11, includes a closing reception and a panel conversation discussing “Women and Power in California.†Some of the panelists are San Luis Obispo Mayor Heidi Harmon, Women’s Foundation of California president Surina Khan, and Miossi Gallery Coordinator Emma Saperstien.Â
Hefferman’s collection is in the Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery, located in room 7170. It is running from Aug. 29 to Oct. 11. The closing reception starts at 5 p.m. in the gallery and the panel is in the Humanities Forum, room 6304, from 6 to 7 p.m.
