For the month of May, there are several exciting productions held at Cuesta’s Performing Art Center, under the CPAC’s new supervisor, Joan Hurwit.
“It’s a very busy month,†Hurwit said. ‘We have our spring production run by the drama department “It Can’t Happen Here.â€â€™
“It Can’t Happen Here†is an adaptation of Sinclair Lewis’ novel brought to stage set in a 1935 American dictatorship that will be running weekend May 11 through May 13.
The production features a guest appearance from national playwright and Allan Hancock theatre history instructor, Wendy-Marie Martin.
There will also be three concerts over the course of three days.
“Combopolooza†will be held on May 15 at 7:30 and is a combination of different jazz techniques.
On May 16, the Cuesta wind ensemble will perform, and on May 17 Cuesta’s jazz ensemble will perform, featuring two-time grammy award winning musician Eric Marienthal at .
Hurwit began running the CPAC in the new faculty position as supervisor five months ago after moving from Los Angeles where she was fine tuning her skills in play development.
“It’s exciting because this a new position all together,†Hurwit said. “There has never been a single person who has been running this space.â€
“I’m really aiming at putting the CPAC on the map,†she added.
