Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot at a speaking event at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10. I’m usually not one to start getting political and I hate talking about politics, but Kirk, age 31, was shot and killed in front of his two kids and wife.
No matter what side you’re on, Democrat or Republican, Kirk had a family just like all of us. He had two children who had to witness their dad bleeding to death after getting shot in the neck. His wife had to witness in horror as he was rushed off by his security team. But the damage had already been done; Kirk was pronounced dead shortly after he was shot in the neck. Whether you agreed with him or not, there is no justifying the murder of a human being like the rest of us.
This is about more than just politics because if you have to resort to murdering someone because you simply disagree with them, you should be seeking mental help. There are dozens of people that I disagree with in today’s world and not once do I think to go murder them because I simply disagree with them. Many interviews with reporters after the shooting show college students. Some students had very traumatic experiences after the shooting and others thought nothing of the shooting and brushed it off as if it were a common occurrence and went about their day like nothing happened.
It’s also very inhumane and disgusting to see videos on social media platforms such as Threads by Instagram and TikTok. For instance, a user with the account “Trinity Love” posted a comment on Facebook laughing over images of people mourning Kirk’s death, which can be found on Threads. You have to be a sick individual to be able to sit there and laugh and celebrate that someone has been shot and killed, taken away from their family, whether you like that person or not. Everyone deserves “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” If we live in a world today where the First Amendment is enough to get someone killed, then we have reached a point where it is no longer Democrats versus Republicans, but good versus evil.
No one deserves to be murdered for speaking what they believe and their view on the world. We can only pray for those who celebrate this tragedy, for they do not know what evil is embedded in them and how mentally damaged they are. A father, a husband, and a son was taken off this Earth simply because of someone’s disagreement. Many probably assume that I side with the Republicans, but forget about politics in this instance. Forget about Democrats and forget about Republicans. It is about true human morals and to realize that everyone on this Earth is human and absolutely no one deserves to be brutally murdered, whether you’re on their side or not. Condolences are sent out to Kirk’s family and loved ones during these hard times. I am sending prayers out to Kirk’s wife, Erika Kirk, along with their two kids, and I pray for their safety and healing through this difficult time.
